Brian Jackson (James McAvoy), is a wide-eyed working class kid whose exhaustive grasp of knowledge leaves him wanting more when it comes to women. On his way to achieving his goal of appearing on University Challenge, a college quiz show, he falls in love with fellow student and teammate, Alice (Alice Eve). Things get complicated when right’s activist Rebecca (Rebecca Hall) tumbles into his life, and he fights to avoid becoming the student his small town expects him to be.
